How we restored the cottage

Before the Restoration

Before the renovation, the cottage was a tired and dated home hidden amongst the trees, with interiors frozen in another era. The living spaces were dominated by worn cream carpeting, heavy curtains, faded red feature walls, and dark timber trims that made the rooms feel smaller and closed in. The original fireplace, while full of character, sat within a space that lacked warmth and cohesion, surrounded by ageing finishes and minimal natural flow.

The kitchen reflected the same ageing charm — laminate benchtops, timber veneer cabinetry, outdated appliances, and patterned vinyl flooring that had clearly stood untouched for decades. Every room carried the feeling of a home that had once been loved but had slowly lost its life over time. The exterior, although surrounded by beautiful natural bushland, felt hidden and neglected, with the cottage blending into the landscape rather than standing proudly within it.

Despite the outdated finishes, the home had incredible bones — a peaceful setting, generous natural light, large windows framing the surrounding greenery, and the unmistakable charm of an old country cottage waiting to be reimagined. What others saw as old and worn, we saw as an opportunity to create something truly special.

The Transformation

Our vision was to completely restore the cottage while preserving its original soul — transforming it into a modern luxury retreat that feels warm, timeless, and deeply connected to nature. Every detail was carefully considered to blend rustic charm with contemporary elegance.

The entire interior was reimagined with a refined earthy palette, clean architectural lines, and premium finishes throughout. Outdated materials were replaced with luxurious marble benchtops, natural sandstone textures, brushed gold and copper fixtures, and custom lighting designed to create warmth and ambience in every space.

The kitchen became one of the home's standout features — transformed from a cramped and ageing workspace into a sleek, open, designer kitchen with stone surfaces, elegant gold accents, and sophisticated finishes that elevate the entire home. Rustic gold pendant lighting and carefully selected textures bring warmth and softness while maintaining a modern aesthetic.

The bathrooms were redesigned into spa-inspired spaces featuring golden rainfall showerheads, brushed brass fittings, warm stone textures, and statement copper sinks that create a sense of understated luxury. Every material was chosen to feel organic, calming, and timeless.

Throughout the home, the darker outdated elements were removed to allow natural light to flood the interiors. The result is a space that feels bright, open, and effortlessly comfortable while still retaining the cozy atmosphere of the original cottage.

The restored cottage is now a seamless blend of modern sophistication and rustic retreat living — a once-forgotten home transformed into a luxurious sanctuary surrounded by nature. It's no longer simply an old cottage; it's an experience designed to feel peaceful, elevated, and unforgettable.
